Our Story

unvarnished [adj] — straight forward, plain, honest; untreated, raw, natural

Hello, I’m Megan, founder, farmer, and chicken wrangler at Unvarnished Farm, newly established in Southeastern, Indiana, in early 2020 (we’re Cincinnati transplants who moved for a job opportunity).

We’re new to the area and the land, and committed to growing dirt into soil using regenerative practices like rotational grazing, cover-cropping, no tilling or chemical spraying, composting, increased biodiversity, and other fun soil health terms.

In short, we want to grow better food to feed more people.

You can find our seasonal farm products, like fresh eggs in a rainbow of colors from pastured chickens and geese, nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, culinary herbs, and maple syrup at Madison Farmers Market, year-round on Saturdays at the Broadway Fountain in beautiful and historic downtown Madison, Indiana.

We’re also rehabbing the house on the land from top-to-bottom, and you can read about all of our trial and error via the blog.

Don’t forget to follow the hijinks via social media: Facebook and Instagram under the handle @Unvarnished_Farm.
