1. Every Ending is a Beginning…
Getting to this point, the first week on our new property, in our new home, has been almost a year of set-backs, tears, frustration, yelling, and resignation.
My husband, a life-long resident of Cincinnati, suffered from its curse: if one is born there, they can never leave. But with a new job in Louisville in the fall of 2019, our moving journey began in earnest. He acquiesced to my expanding farm dream; I compromised with size and cost. Four months later, we spent our first night in a 120 year old farmhouse on 11 acres in Southeastern Indiana.
We have a Herculean task ahead of us: to make a farm from scratch (okay, I’ll admit, most of the acreage is flat and cleared, so I have that going for me), and to rehab this house from the bottom to the top.
I have my eyes wide open on this one: there will be failures, more tears, more yelling, exhaustion, and probably some outright defeats. But all of the hardship means that we will grow, learn, and become stronger, more capable people. At least, I hope that’s how it goes — wish us luck!
